Today's Notes: A nice little quick hitting snowstorm that was over in a matter of 5-6hours. Snow was heavy and conditions were slippery on the roads until road crews got caught on later in the evening. Higher snow amounts of 9-12 inches were from Watersmeet up to Bruce Crossing, over to Watton, into South Houghton county, around L'Anse, and in Herman were the most fell.

Today's Notes: Just some flurries across much of the Upper Peninsula, temps have been a bit warmer this last week so snow has been light. Snowiest place in the Upper Peninsula this last 5 days has been in the eastern UP, especially in the southern portions near Lake Michigan from Gladstone to St. Ignace. It certainly has been nice having upper 30s and mid 40s this week it is certainly a sign that spring is coming soon, but not without a few more good snowstorms before the end of March. Anyone living in the UP for a long time understands you can't rule out seeing snow in the month of May either, Mother's Day snowfall isn't unusual. The only month that I haven't seen snow in has been August, and yes it has snowed in August before, but personally I haven't seen it, the latest I have see was July 4th during festivities that usually come during a warm sunny day that kicks off a typical UP summer.
Lake Superior ice coverage has dropped to about half of it's high this season on Feb 19th of 50.6%, with the warmer temps and winds it has started to break up.

Today's Notes: Today the Three Lakes (RuthLake) snow station joined the 100 Inch Snowfall Club.
Another cold day and night across the Upper Peninsula. The last 8 days we saw ice coverage on Lake Superior grow from 9.27% to 44.36% as of today, that is some considerable gain for sure, double the ice coverage than there was last year at this time. As far as snowfall goes the only place in the UP that saw any considerable snowfall around was from Marquette, south of Marquette and over to Grand Marais. If you were looking to go ice skating by the Marquette lower harbor ore dock with the clear smooth ice, it is now covered with a few layers of snow from the last few days. In the Copper Country and Keweenaw we have recorded snowfall 14 of the last 15 days. At the Tamarack loc snow station and the Painesdale snow station the only day there wasn't any measureable snow this month so far has been Feb 2nd. I didn't put any data together to get a temperature stat, but it has been colder than normal, but every few years we get a nice cold snap that happens and this period of the year is typically our coldest period. The next couple days should see little to no snowfall until Thursday and into the weekend.

Today's Notes: Cold, very cold it was, -47 degrees was recorded in Amasa, now that is some serious cold, I can say I haven't ever felt that temperature in all my Yooper years. Check out these other very cold temperatures across the UP early morning of the 15th.Some light snow around the Western UP and Eastern UP in the northern parts near Paradise and Newberry. A few traces of snowfall near Watersmeet.

Today's Notes: Some big snowfall totals in a small section around Nahma and Manistique again yesterday with today adding another 10-15 inches in the area. One snow station on the east side of Indian Lake near Manistique reported 32 inches, HOLY WHAA! That may be close to a one (1) day record for the Upper Peninsula if not a record 24-hour snow total, I will have to check with the NWS MQT on that one. Elsewhere in the Upper Peninsula saw some snow with your N/NW snowbelts seeing 3-6 inches.

Today's Notes: Snow, light in most places except down near Manistique, Nahma, and Garden Peninsula. That area got their first good snow storm of the season, they got about a 1/4 of their snow for the season yesterday. There was anywhere from 5 inches that was recorded up to some reports of 12-15 inches in pockets. Today we surpassed last years ice coverage on Lake Superior by 5%, but with the winds picking up again with gusts up to 30mph along the western shores of the Keweenaw and from Munising to Whitefish point, I don't see it gaining much more than it is already for the remainder of this season as this is our coldest period that we are in now through the first few days of March. Peak ice coverage for Lake Superior is typically the last week of February and first week of March. Being on Lake Superior ice fishing can turn bad quickly with ice breakup and winds, there was recently ice fisherman on Lake Superior off Minnesota that had to be rescued, and also in Wisconsin on Lake Michigan, always have your safety gear and remember treat ice as if it isn't safe.

Today's Notes: Another cold day, cold enough that that Lake Superior ice coverage grew 8% overnight and today up to 22.98% now. Last year the highest percentage was 22.56% on Feb 17th so it appears we will surpass that level tomorrow. Snowfall was a little more spread out yesterday across the Upper Peninsula with most places seeing at least a trace of snow and many locations recorded a few tenths of an inch up to a couple inches. Areas down on the Garden Peninsula saw a few inches with recorded 5 inches at Parent Bay, the Keweenaw also saw 4-5 inches of snow. It appears there will be some decent snowfall numbers coming out of the Nahma Jct area for tomorrow as a heavy snowband set up there this morning and continued through this afternoon. Snow continues across most of the Upper Peninsula tonight and into the weekend with the Keweenaw continuing to see 3-6 inches a day, Munising area should see 3-6 inches through the next couple days, and down along the Garden Peninsula and Manistique areas should see a few inches as well. Even with the crazy snow the Keweenaw has had this last 8 days, snowfall totals are still running behind last year, but if things keep up the way they have been this week, it won't take long to catch up, there is still another good 2.5 months that we could see some decent snow days. That is one thing about the Upper Peninsula, it's a unique place with unique weather with the topography and having Lake Superior in the path of cold Arctic Air Masses that frequently pass over.

Today's Notes: NOTE: I have started doing the blog again. Check it out and watch more posts, hope to try to post at least 2x a week.
Again the Keweenaw is getting the snow, elsewhere is just getting the cold and some places are negative temps. Things look to change late tonight into Thursday morning with the snowfall, much of the Upper Peninsula will start seeing a few flurries late tonight and into the morning, not a lot but just enough to give those seeking a fresh layer of white gold something to shovel. The higher snow totals for today were from Calumet up into Keweenaw county. Painesdale is still holding onto the top spot for snow as it has for much of the winter season so far. Believe it or not Painesdale is less than 40 inches from their season total at this point last year. Tamarack location is still behind by around 70 inches, and Keweenaw county is still behind last year by about 80 inches. NWS Marquette office is running about 60 inches behind last seasons total. So you can see even with the snow we have had this week, numbers are still well behind, that is because of little snow in December and January, well below averages for many snow stations. Lake Superior ice has grown to 12.22%, the high was 12.37 on Jan 30th, over the weekend we may see ice coverage reach 22% which would put it at highest percentage we saw last year which was on February 17th, 2020.
