Hello all, welcome back to another winter season here in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This is the 8th year of snowfall reports on FunintheUP.com, thanks for following the snowfall page! FunintheUP has quickly become the #1 place for snowfall totals for those interested. .
This year will be another fun year of snow, are you ready? We have 10s of 1000s of followers that check in from snowmobilers, weather stations, emergency personnel, city officials, road crews, skiers, snowboarders, groomers, ski resorts, and many more people across the country and world who love to follow the snowfall totals across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Last year Tamarack Loc. with 362.8 inches of snowfall for the season, passing the 1978/79 (Houghton county) record of 354.1 inches. This is the 4th highest snowfall amount recorded in the Upper Peninsula. The highest snowfall ever recorded in the Upper Peninsula was in 1978/79 at the Keweenaw county snow station with 390.4 inches.

Today's Notes:
Mother's Day 2020 we saw just a light dusting of lake effect snow fell from a brisk north winds across the Upper Peninsula yesterday evening. Usually the week around Mother's Day each year we see a few flakes and usually we don't see any snowfall much later than the middle of the month in May. We have seen snow 6 of 10 days in the Upper Peninsula at the NWS Marquette office and 4 of 10 days at the Calumet(Tamarack location) in the Keweenaw. Will we see any more snowfall this month? I am not sure, last year the last snow was May 19th and no place in the U.P. saw more than 0.5 inches. Things look to be getting warmer this coming weekend and into next week. Today's Notes:
300 inches has been recorded at the Calumet(Tamarack loc) snow station with yesterday's snowfall of 0.8" of snow. Now sitting at 300.6 inches for the season. Also Munising has joined the 200 Inch Snowfall Club. There was a cold Artic Air Mas that moved across Lake Superior that brought in some quick hitting lake effect snowfall across the northern and central Upper Peninsula. Yesterday started out with sunshine and about 40 degrees and by 7pm things started cooling off and about 830pm snow started flying and got heavier into the late evening and early morning hours today. Last year on May 8th we saw a bit of lake effect snow as well.
