Hello all, welcome back to another winter season here in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This is the 8th year of snowfall reports on FunintheUP.com, thanks for following the snowfall page! FunintheUP has quickly become the #1 place for snowfall totals for those interested. .
This year will be another fun year of snow, are you ready? We have 10s of 1000s of followers that check in from snowmobilers, weather stations, emergency personnel, city officials, road crews, skiers, snowboarders, groomers, ski resorts, and many more people across the country and world who love to follow the snowfall totals across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Last year Tamarack Loc. with 362.8 inches of snowfall for the season, passing the 1978/79 (Houghton county) record of 354.1 inches. This is the 4th highest snowfall amount recorded in the Upper Peninsula. The highest snowfall ever recorded in the Upper Peninsula was in 1978/79 at the Keweenaw county snow station with 390.4 inches.

Today's Notes:
We ended the last few days of 2019 with a decent amount of snowfall to keep many snowfall locations ahead of last year's snowfall at this date. The next couple days we shouldn't see to much snowfall but there is a chance of flurries of around an inch the next couple days. There is a possibility of more precipitation Sunday and Monday but nothing storm level that we can tell. Hope everyone had a wonderful New Years Eve and may the year 2020 be a great one for you. Today's Notes:
What a way to end the year 2019 it was, a classic Upper Peninsula snow storm. We saw our highest snow totals today at many stations for this season so far and maybe it will hold for the rest of the season, but winter has just started. It wasn't the worst I have ever been in that is for sure, but it was a bit sloppy and slippery early on. Before mid afternoon I really didn't think it would end up being much as the snow really wasn't adding up to much but it was heavy and wet. Well as temps cooled a bit and the winds shifted the snow belts in the western, central, and northern UP started seeing some developing lake effect snowfall which quickly added up through the evening hours and into the early morning hours today. Your higher snowfall numbers are in the snowbelts in the western, northern, and central Upper Peninsula. Areas south of M28 and along US2 saw from 5-9 inches from the system off Lake Michigan. After 9 days of warmer than usual weather for the end of December we should be back into the winter groove as temperatures start really cooling off. Lake Superior is wide open and that should contribute to lots of lake effect snowfall early on through January, by then we should be hitting 200 inches in the Copper Country and Keweenaw. In the next 1-5 days we should have a handful of snow stations that join the 100 Inch Snowfall Club. Looking ahead into the weekend, it appears there is another system moving in across the Central Plains and mid Mississippi Valley. This system it appears will most likely just brush the southern portions of the Upper Peninsula if things stay as models show. Most likely elsewhere through the UP should be relatively snow free through this week and into the weekend. There may be a few flurries here and there but overall it shouldn't add up to much. Later on Sunday a couple clipper systems might head south from Canada bringing a few inches but again most likely a few traces of snow to an inch or two.

Did you miss the TOP 10 Snowiest LIVE Show today? No problem view the TOP 10 Snowiest and watch the video. I missed a couple days snowfall numbers for Painesdale back on the 15th and 16th as they weren't updated for a few days after that, and I totally forgot to check back to see if they were updated. So Painesdale's updated totals reflected on the TOP 10 Snowiest page.
The storm moved into the Upper Peninsula early in the am today, so most of the snow storm totals will be reflected in tomorrows update. Today most locations in the Upper Peninsula saw some period of heavy wet snowfall. It certainly turned very white within about an hour, the trees were covered and looking amazing, the scenery was amazing today. There is still snow is falling tonight, heavy in some locations, and will continue to pile up tonight and into the early morning hours. The center of the system looks to be heading over the area near Munising and to the east now. There is still some enhanced lake effect snowfall from the NW snowbelts and should continue into the early morning hours. Temperatures did drop about 4-5 degrees from the early morning hours of 32-34 degrees which was making the snowfall extremely wet and heavy, as the night progressed the snowflakes took on a more defined dendrite form with less moisture. We could see the results of this as the snow started to really pile up quickly into the evening. The eastern UP will continue to see light snowfall into the morning hours, but the heaviest stuff has moved out. It is safe to say we should see some 15=20 inch snowfall totals in tomorrows update snowfall. Now it is time to sift through some images and videos from todays snow storm. Remember tomorrow is LIVE at 5PM TOP 10 Snowiest. I didn't mind a slight warmup but now it is getting very old quickly, this is winter not spring. Is this December or March, I think many would say it has felt like March the last week. The has been 8 days of the last 10 days that it didn't snow, much of of it has been at freezing or up to 45 degrees. Last night and into the early morning hours there was a little bit of everything, snow, ice, freezing rain, rain, and sleet. In the Marquette and Ishpeming area there was a little bit of snowfall along with rain that made things extremely slippery on the backroads, much like an ice rink. In the Copper Country from Painesdale into the Keweenaw received 2-5 inches of snowfall. Today after things warmed up the rain started. All the rain made things very mushy after a heavy wet snowfall, leaving many puddles and water in the streets and peoples yards. There were many plowing their driveways as things got mushy. I myself got stuck at my Tamarack location snow station, sliding off my hard packed track into a soft area of snow about 6 inches deep. My 4x4 LO gear isn't working right now so that isn't an option, 4HI works though when vehicle is moving so that is good, one day I'll get my 4LO back after I figure out what the issue is. Rain, rain, rain, all day then turning to drizzle alter on in the evening. As everyone knows now who lives in the UP anyway another wet snow storm system is making its way into the Upper Peninsula tomorrow morning. The NWS Marquette is calling for 7-10 inches across much of the UP, although there is still some uncertainty in the snow amounts, as with many times trying to predict the amount is always a difficult thing. Predicting snow amounts is much more difficult due to many many factors that go into if it snows or not. Those of us who have lived in the UP our whole lives understand that sometimes you get 24 inches when it was predicted 2 inches and vice-versa. Anyway I'll be out there tomorrow catching some photos and video of the action as it is happening.

Today's Notes:
Last year at this time we had ended our snow drought and warm temps, thigns started to really cool off and the snow never seemed to stop until late April from this point on. This year we are again seeing a snow drought with less than an inch of snow in the last 9 days with mild temperatures. Temps dropped overnight again to below freezing which is good for the ski hills, xc ski trail, and snowmobiling trails. We have already lost a lot of snow cover the last week and don't need any more. With no real significant storm system coming this way soon things will remain a bit rough out there for awhile on the trails. Those who don't like snow probably don't mind but those of us who do enjoy that white gold through March want to see more fresh snowfall. It is a lot prettier with white snow covering the trees than what we are seeing out there now. There is a bit of precipitation moving in but it isn't to solid on what kind of precipitation, could be ice, rain, and mixed, along with possible snowfall. Things could get ugly with any freezing rain or wet snowfall. The NWS Marquette has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 7pm to 10am Sunday morning, this is basically to let people know of the possibilities of this crazy mix that is headed into the Upper Peninsula. The next system will come in two parts an earlier arriving upper low that will most likely bring rain on Sunday through the day. Later Sunday night a surge of more moisture arrives along with some colder air temperatures that will move into Monday. There is a possibility of freezing rain in the mix. There is a good chance that things will be prime for snowfall, how much is yet to be determined. The next few days could be a little messy and tricky on the roadways so be prepared for the worst.

Today's Notes:
After things cooled down last night we had a little bit of snowfall but it was less than an inch. Yesterday was one of the warmest days since October, that really isn't something we like to see this time of the year. Things got really mushy and it certainly felt and looked like a spring day in the middle or March. There is a slight chance of 1-2 inches of snowfall across much of the northern half of the UP on Saturday night but the best chance for snow looks to be the Keweenaw area if things do turn that way. Sunday looks to be wet with precipitation being rain so expect things to get really mushy on the snowmobile trails before we start to get snowfall on Monday and Tuesday.

Today's Notes:
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and you are enjoying some time off from the everday hustle and bustle to relax and clear your mind. Christmas was another day of warmer weather and a little bit of drizzle. This has been 7 straight days without any measureable snowfall after going on a stretch of only 8 days with no snowfall from Oct 28th to Dec 19th in the Copper Country and Keweenaw. Tomorrow looks to be warmer and things look to get really mushy. Last year on Christmas Tamarack location hit 100 inches of snowfall and it was the first station to hit the 100 inch mark last year. This year we have 7 stations that have already hit 100 plus inches of snowfall. The first station this year was Grand Marais (Green Haven loc) on Dec 12th. Calumet, Newberry, and Keweenaw county all hit 100 inches on the 17th. You can view the current stations with 100 inches of snowfall.There really isn't much else to say other than this coming week doesn't look to be bringing much snowfall if any until next week around Monday. The snowmobile trails are really soft and expected to get worse tomorrow as water holes are opening up again and trails are really bumpy.

Merry Christmas to you. I hope your day is wonderful. No snowfall to report today. Doesn't look like we will see much snowfall until around the New Year. It appears that Thursday there could be some rain aS temps will be in the mid 30s and might reach the lower 40s across the UP. There could be some rain/snow mix late Saturday night into early Sunday morning across the Western, Northern, and Central UP. The best chance for snowfall looks to be Monday however.

Today's Notes:
A few locations with a trace of snowfall and an inch in Newberry. Temperatures were warm today for being the end of December hitting mid 40s. Ice on Lake Superior increased 1.78% from yesterday and the Great Lakes ice increased 0.6% from yesterday. Today last year we saw the snow drought ended which was 12 days of now measureable snowfall of more than a half inch. From this point onward through May 19th it snowed.

Today's Notes:
Today little to no snow across the Upper Peninsula. The only area of the Upper Peninsula to see anything more than a trace of snowfall was in the far eastern Upper Peninsula from the Soo down to St. Ignace and over to Detour Village and a little on Drummond Island. This time last year we were at the end of the snow drought of 12 days, and this year it appears we will now be entering a snow drought for at least up to Christmas day possibly longer. With temperatures expected to reach hover above 30 degrees and reach close to 40 degrees on Sunday it is likely that snow conditions will worsen along the snowmobile trails, things tend to get bumpy and with all the trail work being done to cover standing water holes there is likely to be some areas that open back up. Mount Bohemia will be opening tomorrow and snow should be good initially but conditions will soon get mushy with the temperatures rising and the amount of skis going to be hitting the slopes.

Today's Notes:
As of today there are 7 snowfall locations to reach 100+ inches to date, view the 100 Inch Snowfall Club. Very minimal snowfall across the Upper Peninsula today a couple inches around the Copper Country and Keweenaw, and in the far eastern UP near Cedarville and out on Drummond Island. Elsewhere a trace of snowfall to an inch were recorded and some places no snowfall was recorded. The next 3-5 days temperatures will reach 30+ degree and in some areas may reach up to upper 30s possible low 40s briefly. Travel for Christmas should be very nice and roads should be snow free for the most part along the major highways. Expect backroads and driveways across the Upper Peninsula to get mushy and be aware you may get stuck as the warmer temps will make the hard packed snow soft. Snowfall should be light if there is any the next few days into Christmas day. Always be aware that things can change quickly when we have Lake Superior and cold artic air that can change things in a heartbeat.
Snowmobling news: The Portage Lift Bridge mats went down today. You can now cross the Portage Canal and go back and forth until the end of snowmobiling season. Also the snowmobile clubs across the Upper Peninsula are reporting improved conditions along the trails. There is still work to be done and some trails still remained closed. Still use caution along your ride as you may still run into hazards that may or not be marked. As the weather gets warmer this week into next, expect some areas with recently covered water hazards to be soft again. I will be out along the trails this week snapping pictures and videos of snowmobilers so you might see me.
Ice on Lake Superior is increasing now but with the warm weather coming it won't be progressing much at all. See the currenty ice coverage below.

Newberry and Calumet snow locations hit 100+ inches today, view the 100 Inch Snowfall Club.
There was a little snowfall across most of the Upper Peninsula today with 1-8 inches. The next few days there will most likely be snow but it looks to be coming to an end for about a week until Christmas day. We are still ahead of last years snowfall in much of the Upper Peninsula and with the warmup coming and lack of snow things will tighten back up.

Today's Notes:
Houghton county (Superior loc.) became the latest snow location to join the 100 Inch Snowfall Club. Light and fluffy Lake effect snowfall across the Upper Peninsula yesterday with nothing more than 4 inches anywhere. So far it has been a pretty snowy start to the winter season. Last year was snowy as well but we are still ahead of last year in many areas in the Upper Peninsula. In 2017/18 we had snowfall totals about where we are this year, in some areas there was more at this point that season. Overall we are ahead of normal snowfall amounts in most areas in the Upper Penisula.

Today's Notes:
Here's a fun stat for today. Usually the snowiest place in the Upper Penisula year after year is the Copper Country and Keweenaw. Well get this, it has snowed 41 of the last 49 days going back to Oct 28th. October 28th was the 4th time it snowed also, it snowed on Oct 12th, 13th, and 14th. Has it been snowier than last year at this time? Most areas of the Copper Country and Keweenaw are running 20-30 inches ahead of last year. Marquette area is about equal to last years snowfall at this time along with the far western UP near Ironwood. Areas near Munising to Paradise north of M28 are running about 30 inches over last years snowfall. The far eastern UP and areas along Lake Michigan are running about 10-15 inches ahead of last year. So overall this has been a lively beginning to winter, and will it continue until the middle of May like last year? We shall see. View last years snowfall at this time.

Today's Notes:
First off for today. You will notice Eagle Mine as a location, it is the Big Bay 9SW location, but it is south of Big Bay. There is also a station called Big Bay 1NW which I will label as Big Bay to differentiate them. The Big Bay location doesn't always update regularly, when it does I will update the days when it updates if you ever want to go back and look at the snowfall. Today Keweenaw County, Tamarack loc, and Painesdale reached 100+ inches of snowfall. They joined Green Loc as the first 4 locations in the Upper Peninsula. It is turning out to be a rather snowy beginning to the snowfall season here across the Upper Penisula. We shall see as the season progresses if it keeps up and if there will be places that will drop off. Remember tomorrow Monday is LIVE at 5pm TOP 10 Snowiest loctions. Usually by about mid January the Top 10 snowiest doesn't change to much other than some of the stations changing positions, this last week 1 location dropped off and 1 location joined the TOP 10, others just shuffled. I am expecting Grand Marais (Green Haven loc) to drop off the #1 spot down to 2-4 spot this next week. Keweenaw county, Painesdale, and Tamarack location are very very close now and those locations usually start to see some serious snowfall this time of the year through January. Anything can happen, it is fun to watch and this year seems like another winter that will provide some interesting data.
I am seeing more and more snowmobiles and trucks with snowmobile trailers heading to town and around town. Lots of snow now for the riding, grooming should get better each day as long as things stay relatively cool to keep the trails packed, things can get tend to get bumpy with those who love to punch the throttle every 10 yards. There is a good 24-36 inches of snow on the ground from Mass City to Houghton, and into the Keweenaw now for those who love off trail powder riding, but remember don't ride where you're not supposed to!
Cross country skiing has been excellent and the groomers are turning out some sweet tracks, skate has been fast the last few days. Come on up and cross country ski the Upper Peninsula, some of the best snow in the Midwest and there are lots of wonderful trails to ski, you could spend a couple weeks up here and not ski the same trails twice.

Today's Notes:
First 100 inches of snow was recorded in the Upper Peninsula yesterday. The next couple days we should see another few stations hit their first hundred inches for the season. Hitting 100 inches of snow isn't really a big deal for place like Ironwood, Herman, Ishpeming, Grand Marais, Munising, Newberry, Houghton, Painesdale, Calumet, or Keweenaw. It is almost guaranteed that those areas every winter will almost always at least double that each year. Places like Painesdale, Calumet, and Keweenaw it isn't unusual to reach 300 inches of snow for the season.

Today's Notes: First 100 inches today! Today Grand Marais (Green Haven loc.) had 7 inches of snow, with that it has now reached 106 inches of snowfall. There are reports of Twin Lakes having reached 100 inches already, I am working on verifying this. There are another 3 or 4 stations within 10 inches of hitting 100 inches for the season, Painsdal, Tamarack loc, shoud hit 100 inches soon. This season has started out very snowy, not even halfway through December and we have 4 locations about to hit 100 inches already. To give you an idea there has only been about 8 days where it hasn't snowed anywhere in the Upper Penisula since October 30th. It is important to remember that anything can happen with snowfall, we can and often go into snow droughts and we usually get a January and February thaw, last year we didn't see one, we saw it get very cold for the Upper Peninsula.
Snowmobile trails continue to improve and I am seeing a few more snowmobilers the last couple days. Usually by the middle of December it starts to get busy out on the trails and Christmas to New Years is usually always the busiest. If we continue to have consistent snowfall it should remain steady through the entire season into March.
Cross country ski trails are now in very good condition, come up and ski some of the best trails and snow conditions in the Midwest.

Today's Notes: Yesterday and early morning hours today temperatures dropped quite a bit. Snow continued where it left off in the Copper Country and Keweenaw dropping another 3-10 inches. The forecast continues to look like snow through the week, but the temperatures should get a bit warmer which will be nice, not many people like the single digits that I know of, especially when winds are 20-30mph. We did see the sunshine a little bit along with some blue skies across the Upper Peninsula. Across the eastern UP things opened up a little bit to provide a fairly colorful sunset. Meanwhile across the Copper Country light lake effect snow continued on an off as snow bands made their way through. Last year at this time we were starting a snowfall drought which lasted about 12 days with most locations in the Upper Peninsula seeing less than 2 or 3 inches of snowfall during that period. The month of December last year was under average at most locations, we still managed to see lots of snowfall that brought a few locations in the Copper Country and Keweenaw see 300+ inches of snow. Tamarack location set a record (362.8") for the most snowfall recorded in Houghton county passing the 1978/79 snowfall(354.1"), it is now the 4th most snow recorded in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
There weren't many snowmobilers or cross country skiers out today that I could see as temps and winds were keeping people inside or doing other things today. Now that we have some good snowfall across the upper half of the Upper Peninsula from Ironwood all the way to Paradise and into the Keweenaw we should see more and more snowmobilers and cross country skiers out enjoying the white gold.
We now have a handful of snow stations with 80+ inches of snowfall and we should see 2 or 3 stations hit 100 inches for the season within the 1-3 days if snowfall continues the way it has been. Once a station reaches 100 inches I will note that on the 100 inches snowfall page.

Today's Notes: Today we measured fresh light and fluffy snowfall. Pretty much snowed all day yesterday and continues to snow through this afternoon across the Upper Peninsula. Snowfall amounts vary from a couple inches in the eastern and southern UP to 5-13 inches in the central, western, and northern Upper Peninsula. It appears the snow will continue through this week with light and fluffy accumulations while temperatures will be dropping tonight and tomorrow. These light and fluffy snowfalls are much more welcome as they are easier to drive in except when the wind really decides to increase. It can make for a challenging time staying on the road as things appear so white when the snow is really falling or if you are driving at night when snow gets kicked up from the vehicles you're passing and following. Make sure to keep a safe distance, even in this drier more course snow it still takes a longer distance to stop than when the pavement is clear. Expecting around 3-8 inches across the Upper Peninsula tonight and tomorrow morning so there should be some more snowfall to add to the totals. Grab yourself a couple extra cups of coffee the next few days or grab your favorite blanket and sip some hot coco watching some Classic Christmas Movies, Home Alone, anyone?

Today's Notes: Not to much snowfall to report today. Almost all day yesterday there was light drizzle which later on in the evening turned to freezing rain in some areas of the Upper Peninsula. Across the Gogebic range all schools were closed this morning as well as some schools in Marquette county. Roads were very slippery this morning after temps dropped and a light snowfall started falling. There was a trace of snowfall to 1.5 inchs in the western UP for todays measurements. The snowfall really started around 8 or so this morning and hasn't stopped across the western UP and Northern UP, up to 6 inches had already fallen in the Calumet area and Keweenaw by 1pm. By noon in the Painesdale and Houghton area there was about 4 inches and still snowing. Road conditions from Marquette to Munising are fairly clear and anywhere south of Marquette is looking ok, might still be some slick spots so careful. Eastern UP looks like it is pretty clear, not snow covered at all. From Negaunee to Ironwood along US41 and M28 roads are really snow covered and will remain like that most of the day as road crews work to keep roads clear as possible. Also from Covington Jct to Houghton up into the Keweenaw roads are snow covered with some slick spots so use caution. From Houghton to Ontonagon roads are snow covered as well with heavier snowfall from Painesdale to Mass city. From Wakefield to Ironriver roads are snow covered with some really slick areas, closer you get to Iron Mountain the better the roads get. From Iron Mountain to Escanaba roads aren't to bad mostly bare. Along US2 to St. Ignace travel should be fairly normal winter conditions, roads aren't to snow covered, there may be pockets of ice and slush so careful.
Those looking to snowmobile in the Upper Peninsula must use caution and be aware that there are still a lot of hazards with downed trees and non-frozen water hazards still along the trails. Snowmobile clubs are just now starting to get all the trails clear of debris. They are working to make the trails as best they can be for early season riding, this cold spell coming up will help freeze the trails a bit. Use caution and be aware that groomers could be around the corner working on a section of trail. If you can spare some time to help with clearing trails contact the snowmobile clubs in the areas you will be riding and lend a hand.
Also there has been a lot of snowmobilers riding across private land already this season and also tearing out private property signs and breaking fencing that crosses peoples private property. Stay on the trails unless you know for certain you can ride that land. Riding where you shouldn't and ripping down private property signs threatens keeping sections of trails open that crosses private property which land owners have agreed for an easement so people can ride. Be courteous and respect the lands you ride and don't ride like a maniac with no respect for others. Cross country skiing across the Copper Country is wonderful right now, there has been a couple inches each day for the last week and the groomers are doing a wonderful job of making excellent trails right now, get out and ski.

Today's Notes: No snowfall to report today. The next couple days we will see a little lake effect snow enter the western UP and through the Upper Peninsula. Snow totals are anywhere from 2-8 inches depending on elevation and how the bands move through. Higher snowfall amounts look to be from Ironwood up along the spine of the Copper Country. Light snow will start falling late tonight and into early morning on Monday and will continue through Wednesday. There could be some freezing rain and mix today and tonight across parts of the Upper Peninsula, as temperatures cool down it could become very slippery on the roads. Backroads could become mushy and slick as temperatures hover around 30-36 degrees through the day today and then start to re-freeze up tonight. Tuesday to Thursday look to be our coldest 3 days in a row this season so far. Temps might struggle to get out of the single digits during those three days, best to make sure now that your car batteries are charged up or just replace them and carry some jumper cables or a booster box in case you need it. Those looking to snowmobile in the Upper Peninsula must use caution and be aware that there are still a lot of hazards with downed trees and non-frozen water hazards still along the trails. Snowmobile clubs are struggling with getting all the trails clear of debris and trying to cover water and make the trails as best they can be for early season riding. It is important to use caution and be aware that groomers could be around the corner working on a section of trail.
Also there has been a lot of snowmobilers riding across private land already this season and also tearing out private property signs and breaking fencing that crosses people peoples private property. Stay on the trails unless you know for certain you can ride that land. Riding where you shouldn't and ripping down private property signs threatens keeping sections of trails open that crosses private property which land owners have agreed for an easement so people can ride. Be courteous and respect the lands you ride and don't ride like a maniac with no respect for others. Cross country skiing across the Copper Country is wonderful right now, there has been a couple inches each day for the last week and the groomers are doing a wonderful job of making excellent trails right now, get out and ski.

Today's Notes: Just a little snow in some parts of the Upper Peninsula to report today. Last year at this time the western UP from Bergland, northern UP from Painesdale to Calumet into the Keweenaw were getting some heavy lake effect snow bands from Dec 5th-7th. Superior loc. got 14.2", Bergland got 16.1", Painesdale got 16.8", Tamarack loc. got 18.7", and Keweenaw county got 23 inches for the 3 days. This lake effect snow brought Herman to 79.0 inches by Dec 6th and Tamarack location to 80.4 inches and by the 7th it was 87.8 inches. After this lake effect snow last year we didn't see much snowfall for over 10 days last year, this year I don't think that will be the case as another lake effect snow system looks to be impacting the NW snowbelts coming Tues-Thurs. The temperatures will be mild today, Saturday and Sunday, even partly on Monday. Tuesday to Thursday look to be our coldest 3 days in a row this season so far. Today's Notes: Light snow again across the Upper Peninsula. The eastern Upper Peninsula and the Copper Country were the only places saw around 1-3 inches, while other areas saw a trace up to 1.5 inches of snow. We should see snowfall across the Upper Peninsula dwindle down today and become mostly cloudy with a little sunshine peaking out here and there the next couple days. It does look to get cold about mid week next week and another system of light lake effect snow looks to be making its way to the Upper Peninsula as a mid level trough makes its way through the UP. This is way to early to tell what exactly is going to happen but it does appear Monday and Tues look to be the higher snowfall amounts in the NW snowbelts in the UP. Today's Notes: Just another day of little snowfall. Expect snowfall for most of the next week. Temperatures will remain in the upper 20s to close to 32 degrees until about mid week next week when we should see them drop into the teens and single digits. These cooler temperatures should help to freeze up the snowmobile trails and provide plenty of opportunities for the ski hills to continue snow making to supplement the natural snowfall. We should see an inch or two of snowfall tonight and into the morning hours tomorrow. Grand Marais (Green Loc.) is still leading the UP in snowiest, but the Copper Country is right behind.

Today's Notes: Little snowfall across the Upper Peninsula today. A trace to 2 inches across the eastern UP. Less than an inch across the western UP and central, and about 1-3 inches across the Copper Country and Keweenaw. The next few days we should see light snowfall, a trace to a couple inches possible each day. Temperatures will hover around 25-32 degrees in most places across the Upper Peninsula through the weekend. Grand Marais (Green loc.) and Newberry areas are the snowiest locations in the Upper Peninsula still. So far this season it has been an interesting one with these systems that we have gotten so far, not your typical patterns, but as the winter moves forward I am sure we will start seeing more North and North West winds and the Lake Effect snows will start picking up. Last year December wasn't that snowy but about mid January it really started picking up and it seemed to snow almost every day through March with plenty of snow in April and also up until May 19th. Today's Notes: Well today wasn't to exciting for snowfall, an inch or two across the Upper Peninsula. Most places in the Upper Peninsula, are above normal on snowfall amounts for this time of the year. It isn't until about the middle of December until you start usually seeing 4-5 feet of snow across the Upper Peninsula, but we are in cyclic weather patterns of cold and snow. You can compare previous snowfall totals on the page here just click the years you are interested in and find the location you're interested in. For the next few days we should see little snow, but it should snow almost every day it looks like. Today's Notes: Another nice snow storm hit the Upper Peninsula again. Most areas of the Upper Peninsula have a decent amount of snowfall now with this last storm. The only areas it didn't impact much were Houghton and north into the Keweenaw, areas north of L'Anse to Big Bay, and the far eastern UP. Areas like Ironwood, Gladstone, and Manistique it more than doubled their seasonal snowfall in 2 days, but we have to remember that is the banana belt of the Upper Peninsula for snowfall, they see very little, go check out 2018/19 snow totals for those areas. This is the second day of snowmobile season and there hasn't been a lot of snowmobiles up here yet, I think it is mostly because many of the snowmobile clubs are letting people know that the trails have taken a beating from the last few storms and they are still clearing brush and trying to get wet spots hardened up. The groomers have been out but it has been more trail clearing than actual grooming lately, it is ok, it has to be done. If you can lend a hand contact a club, take a ride and help clear brush. This is now the month of December which is typically our snowiest month of the winter, so I hope everyone is ready for another snowy year which it is already shaping up to be.
