Today's Notes: No snow to report for the last day of of 2020. Thank you for all the support in 2020 and helping FunintheUP grow across all channels. Happy New Year everyone! Looking forward to lots of FunintheUP for 2021. On the snow side of things starting this week, it appears we won't be seeing much on the snow side of things but could possible see a few rain showers, See the snow outlook above. Compared to last year we are behind on snowfall totals across the entire UP, there isn't a place that isn't behind last years numbers some more than others. Last year at this time we already had 8 snow stations with at least 100 inches of snow and about 5 within 10 inches or less to 100 for the season. This year we don't even have 1 station at 80 inches yet.

Today's Notes: Today the snow measurements were much like they were yesterday. Last year today we had a pretty nice snow storm to end Dec 2019 with some areas getting 18 inches of snow and many with at least 10 inches. It looks like we will be seeing a lull in the snow for a little while, the long term forecast doesn't look the greatest for snow conditions and temperatures may reach into the low 30s this weekend and into next week. Last year at this time we already had 8 snow stations with at least 100 inches of snow and about 5 within 10 inches or less to 100 for the season. This year we don't even have 1 station at 80 inches yet.

Today's Notes: Snow continues in the Upper Peninsula, about 10 days in a row now with some measureable snowfall. Today the mats went in and the gates opened for snowmobilers to cross under the Portate Lake Lift Bridge. Most of the UP had snow to measure this morning, about average of 3-5 inches. The snow continues to fall today with some heavy snowbands of lake effect snow blasting those NW snowbelts today. Look for snow to start letting up this evening across the western UP and Keweenaw tonight with some light flurries mixed in tomorrow. The central and eastern UP will probably see more snow through Thursday afternoon then let off by late Thursday night. For the next few days into the weekend we should see temps hover around the upper 20s and in some areas reaching the low 30s with possible 34 or 35 degrees.
Snowmobiling: I am seeing more and more snowmobiles on the trails the last few days. Please keep in mind the eastern UP still needs another 10-12 inches to start getting a bit better, it is rough out there. The western UP and Keweenaw is pretty decent, but still fair to good in some spots, areas up near Copper Harbor are very light on snow. If you want to ride up to High Rock or Keystone point in the Keweenaw you will need to trailer your sleds up to Copper Harbor and take Mandan Rd from the beginning of US41.

Today's Notes: This week has been our snowiest so far this season by far. The Copper Country has seen 9 days in a row and many other areas it has snowed 8 of 9 and 7 out of 9 days. We should now see pretty consistent snowfall with a few good snow storms mixed in now through the end of February and of course snow in March, April, and your Mother's Day snowfall. If there is a time to plan to come to the UP to for snowmobiling, cross country skiing, or snowshoeing, and enjoy this Winter Wonderland of the Upper Peninsula it would be around the 2nd week of January through the end of February. Hotels are open, retail stores are open, some restaurants are open but carry out only as of now.

Today's Notes: This week we saw our largest weekly snowfall totals since we started measuring our first snowfall this season on October 1st, Greenland recorded the most snowfall this week with 20.1 inches, 3-4 inches more than any other place this week. Be sure to check out this weeks TOP 10 Snowiest Places. Today was another day of light snowfall, lake effect snow, light fluffy, settles quickly, as the delicate crystals break down. Some nice banding of snow came through early morning hours through the Huron Mountains and just south east of L'Anse to drop 4-7 inches of snow. The Eastern UP has finally been seeing a little more snowfall now, much of their snowfall has occured the last half of this month. Many places saw a half inch up to 3 inches of snowfall for todays measurements. Late morning today there was some heavy lake effect snowfall off Keweenaw Bay and also coming off Lake Superior east of Marquette to Whitefish Point there were some heavy snow bands impacting the areas.
Snowmobiling: today was the first day I have noticed a lot of snowmobilers out and about in the Copper Country. The groomers have been able to get out on the trails the last few days but the trails are still in fair condition overall. On the ground snowfall is 5-15 inches, with each snowfall it has been improving we really need a good dumping. Ironwood and Bergland areas have been seeing snow as well, the on the ground snow levels are about the same as the Copper Country, around 5-15 inches. Eastern UP is needing snow bad, today's snow will continue to help improve the trails east of Marquette to Munising. Trails north of M28 in the eastern UP have the best snow conditions, and that isn't saying a lot considering there is only 2-8 inches of snow on the ground, anywhere south of M28 and east of M77 there is just a dusting of snow on the ground, every few days we should see more and more snow. It isn't until the middle of January when the snowmobiling really gets good, it is because you can't ever depend on having a good snowy Nov and sometimes December can be horrible as it has been the last few years.
This week we will see a few inches but nothing of significance.

Today's Notes: Another day of a dusting of snowfall. December looks like it on it's way to be one least snowiest Decembers for a long time. The month of November and October combined than December and can you remember a time when that happened before, but the month isn't over yet, but still it will be a month of little snowfall.

Today's Notes: Christmas Day just a light dusting of snow across much of the UP. There were a few pockets of higher snowfall like in Negaunee Township and along Whitefish Point to the Soo.

Today's Notes: More snow yesterday that gave us our biggest two day snow totals for the season so far. The Western UP and Copper Country added a little bit more snow to the snowfall yesterday. Elsewhere across the UP saw minimal snowfall and just some windy conditions. With this snowfall we are still a good distance behind last years snow numbers. It has been a bit unusual start to the winter. Up until this snow storm, many places saw more snow during the month of October than was measured with both November and December combined, but we still have another 6 days left to the month. Overnight we should see some light flurries adding another 1-3 inches in the Western UP and through the Keweenaw. Western Marquette county should only see a dusting of snow around a half-inch to an inch of snow, while the Munising area should see 2-4 inches through Saturday night. Monday we should see some strong NW/N winds and temperatures hovering around 24-28 degrees which will be prime for some lake effect snow in the snow belts through the Keweenaw, Copper Country, Ironwood area, and east of Munising.
