UP Snow Reports will start when the first snowflakes appear for 2021/22 season. Could be anytime now, October 18th we saw our first freeze in Marquette county with sub-thirty degree temps. Thousands of people follow from all 50 states and people from all over the world follow FunintheUP Snowfall Reports all winter. The snowfall totals are used by snowmobilers, news stations, emergency personnel, city officials, road crews, skiers, snowboarders, groomers, ski resorts. Last year one snow station received 300 + inches of snowfall. The highest snowfall ever recorded in the Upper Peninsula was in 1978/79 at the Keweenaw county snow station with 390.4 inches.

Today's Notes:
A quick hitting wet snowfall hit the Upper Peninsula with a few traces of snow up to 5-7 inches in some places. Spring has been nice so far with some warmer than avearge temperatures and a little sunshine mixed in for some early opportunities to get a few chores done before the end of May. Seeing snow in April isn't unusual and is almost a regular occurance most years across the Upper Peninsula, our last snow we usually see is sometime in May. Calumet (Tamarack loc) and Painesdale are the first stations to reach 200 inches for the season, and may possibly be the only locations to hit 200 for this seasons snowfall.

Biggest 24hr total this season: Manistique 2.7 with 32.3 inches on Feb 13th

Today's Notes:
Some unexpected snow over the morning hours today left some areas of the Upper Peninsula with a few traces of snow up to 3 inches in Herman. Lots of precipitation in the air as the last week has been pretty wet which has resulted in almost the snow disappearing now. There are still a few patches in the forests and some snowbanks in driveways and parking lots but most has left us. There is a chance that snow will fall over the Keweenaw tonight with a few tenth of an inch with up to a half in higher elevations west of Marquette, areas east of Munising and near Newberry.
