Good day to you friend, winter is here again in the Upper Peninsula, are you ready for another snowy and cold winter? Snowfall is a big part of life in the Upper Peninsula and very memorable, we Yoopers love to talk about how much snow we get each winter. This is the 12th year of snowfall reports on FunintheUP.com, thanks for following the snowfall page! FunintheUP has quickly become the #1 place for snowfall totals for those interested.
Thousands of people follow from all 50 states and people from all over the world follow FunintheUP Snowfall Reports all winter. The snowfall totals are used by snowmobilers, news stations, emergency personnel, city officials, road crews, skiers, snowboarders, groomers, ski resorts. Last year we saw a winter with little snow, the most snow was at Tamarack location with 211.3 inches of snow. you can view last years snow totals here.

Today's Notes:
What was supposed to be a big storm with a lot of heavy wet snow ended up being just a brief wet snowfall, much of the system moved further south and eastward across the Midwest. Today we finally saw Keweenaw county reach the 300 inche mark with 4 inches of snow, brining the station to 302.5 inches for the season. Even though it is the end of March we still have a good month of decent chances of snow, can usually count on a few inches during April and sometimes a few flurries in May.

Today's Notes:
Just a little bit of snow yesterday. Today we are starting to see the snow start flying along with some rain and other mushy precipitation across the Upper Peninsula. Tomorrow there will be more snow to report. It appears that the system that was to bring us a lot of snow has now pretty much fallen apart and tomorrow things should clear up a bit earlier. Keweenaw county had another 0.5 inches yesterday and with the snow that fell today Keweenaw county might finally hit that 300 inch mark, right now it is only 1.5 inches away.

Today's Notes:
Few places saw snow last night. Things will get a bit nasty this week across the Upper Peninsula, we have a pretty wet mixed precipitation event coming through the Upper Peninsula Wednesday and sticking around into Thursday morning. This system will be much like we saw last week with rain, sleet, freezing rain, and then snow after the cooler temps arrive later Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
Some of you are seeing that Keweenaw county has reported 300 inches, they are actually sitting at 298 inches (as of 3.26.22) they are still just shy. On their snowfall page they have listed Oct 1st and Oct 2nd of having snowfall, there wasn't any snow those days, those numbers are the snow that was on Nov 1st and Nov 2nd, when they updated their snowfall they entered the data from Nov 1st and 2nd snowfall (the first days of measured snow) and that never got deleted off the page. Here on the Wayback Machine for Kew snow page Oct 28th you can view that there was no snowfall on Oct 1st and 2nd. October 1st and 2nd were two above average weather days, Oct 1st was 82 degrees and sunny and Oct 2nd it got up to 76 degrees. Our first flurries anywhere in the Upper Peninsula was on Oct 21st, 22nd, and 23rd where all those days we just saw flurries in the air or a couple flakes on recorded on the snowboards at the snow stations.
Will Keweenaw county hit 300 inches, most likely, there is still another good month that we could see snowfall and even into Mother's Day we sometimes see snow flurries.
I will continue to update this page as we get snowfall. I know myself I am ready for warmer weather and doing a lot more summer adventures this year.

Today's Notes:
A dusting of snowfall. Things will get a bit nasty this week across the Upper Peninsula, we have a pretty wet mixed precipitation event coming through the Upper Peninsula Wednesday and sticking around into Thursday morning. This system will be much like we saw last week with rain, sleet, freezing rain, and then snow after the cooler temps arrive later Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
Some of you are seeing that Keweenaw county has reported 300 inches, they are actually sitting at 298 inches (as of 3.26.22) they are still just shy. On their snowfall page they have listed Oct 1st and Oct 2nd of having snowfall, there wasn't any snow those days, those numbers are the snow that was on Nov 1st and Nov 2nd, when they updated their snowfall they entered the data from Nov 1st and 2nd snowfall (the first days of measured snow) and that never got deleted off the page. Here on the Wayback Machine for Kew snow page Oct 28th you can view that there was no snowfall on Oct 1st and 2nd. October 1st and 2nd were two above average weather days, Oct 1st was 82 degrees and sunny and Oct 2nd it got up to 76 degrees. Our first flurries anywhere in the Upper Peninsula was on Oct 21st, 22nd, and 23rd where all those days we just saw flurries in the air or a couple flakes on recorded on the snowboards at the snow stations.
Will Keweenaw county hit 300 inches, most likely, there is still another good month that we could see snowfall and even into Mother's Day we sometimes see snow flurries.
I will continue to update this page as we get snowfall. I know myself I am ready for warmer weather and doing a lot more summer adventures this year.

Today's Notes:
A little more snow today about as much as yesterday, I am sure we will see some more snow before the middle of May. We are yet to see any stations hit the 300 inch mark even with the snowfall earlier in the week. Some of you are seeing that Keweenaw county has reported 300 inches, they are actually sitting at 297.5 inches. On their snowfall page they have listed Oct 1st and Oct 2nd of having snowfall, there wasn't any snow those days, those numbers are the snow that was on Nov 1st and Nov 2nd, when they updated their snowfall they mistakinly added when they entered the data. Here on the Wayback Machine for Kew snow page Oct 28th you can view that there was no snowfall on Oct 1st and 2nd. October 1st and 2nd were two above average weather days, Oct 1st was 82 degrees and sunny and Oct 2nd it got up to 76 degrees. Our first flurries anywhere in the Upper Peninsula was on Oct 21st, 22nd, and 23rd where all those days we just saw flurries in the air or a couple flakes on recorded on the snowboards at the snow stations.
Will Keweenaw county hit 300 inches, most likely, there is still another good month that we could see snowfall and even into Mother's Day we sometimes see snow flurries.
I will continue to update this page as we get snowfall. I know myself I am ready for warmer weather and doing a lot more summer adventures this year.

Today's Notes:
Ice, and snow, wet snow, heavy snow, snow, more snow, snow in March, winter isn't over yet. Some saw nasty weather and some saw beautiful ice and snow covered trees, everything coated in winter white. This morning was a bit slick out but late morning into the early afternoon roads started to become a little more driveable. Most areas of the Upper Peninsula besides the Copper Country and Keweenaw saw little to no snowfall. Places north of Houghton from Calumet to Copper Harbor saw the bigger snowfall amounts with Calumet area seeing 5-7 inches and some places around Central and Delaware seeing 7-10 inches. Keweenaw county and Calumet Tamarack location are really close now to reaching that 300 inch mark, Keweenaw is 8.5 inches away and Tamarack loc is 19.4 inches away. It will be close for sure, but if anywhere in the UP that reaching 300 inches any given year is possible it is in the Copper Country up into the Keweenaw. I will continue to update this page as we get snowfall. I know myself I am ready for warmer weather and doing a lot more summer adventures this year.

Today's Notes:
Another day of just a dusting of snow, a bit colder today, just when you thought spring was arriving it's looking like winter again for the time being. There is still enough winter left for both the Keweenaw county and Tamarack location to hit at least 300 inches. We have a bit more snow on the ground at most snow stations this season vs. last season at this point. Lake Superior ice is holding fairly strong this year compared to last year today it is 53% and last year today was 11.59% and a bit reason why we haven't seen a greater ice coverage this year was it took awhile for the lake to cool down because of how warm the water was from the HOT summer of 2021. We might have seen 90-95% ice coverage if we saw normal air temperatures.

Highest 24hr total this season: NWS Marquette with 21.6 inches on Feb 23rd

Today's Notes:
Some light lake effect snowfall mostly in the Western UP and Copper Country. The snowfall covered up the icy roads that we had yesterday from the freezing rain most of the Upper Peninsula saw. It was a pretty messy day and dangerous on some roadways, the highways stayed pretty clear with the heavy salt the road commissions layed down. Lots of trees branches were leaning over all over the place with the ice and heavy snow on the branches this morning.

Just a few light flurries across the Upper Peninsula. Ice percentage on Lake Superior is the highest of the season today at 64% coverage. Last year at this time it was 12%.

Highest 24hr total this season: NWS Marquette with 21.6 inches on Feb 23rd

Today's Notes:
Another day of light snow, with our days getting longer and starting to get closer to that time of year when things start warming up, chances of snow goes down each day. The last 10 years we have seen some decent snowfall during the months of March and April, and it isn't unsual to see snow as late as Mothers Day. On the ground snowfall amounts aren't that much higher than last year at this time in some of the snowiest areas of the UP. Ice on Lake Superior is considerably higher than last year today, you can view last year and last years ice coverage just above where daily snow totals are listed. Our next period of moisture that may bring some mixed weather of snow and sleet, maybe even some rain is Saturday, it looks to be a messy day. Stay tuned for developments on this system.
Be sure to check out the 9 new snow stations added to the list of snow stations, now totalling 72 locations to follow the daily snowfall in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
NOTE: I will be doing regular tweeks to this page over the next week or two. There is a lot of data to display and on tiny mobile devices the amount of data is a bit overwhelming to many so I am hoping I can get a good layout that works a bit better for our mobile device users which account for about 65-70% of users.
