Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village though. He will not see me stopping here. To watch his woods fill up with snow.

Today's Notes:
NOTE: I will be adding more snow stations to the website in the next few days, looking at updating 5-8 more snow stations across the Upper Peninsula. I will make a note here when they are updated and you can expect to start seeing the daily snowfall for them.
Snow for Jan 31st was a few traces of snow across the Upper Peninsula, only station that recorded more was Big Bay (Eagle Mine). We saw temperatures as the day went on rise to 30 degrees. Tonight into Wednesday afternoon we will continue to see stronger winds with 40-45mph gusts along the Lake Superior shoreline. I have added another snow station in the Soo which you will see listed as Soo SSMM. The Current Top 10 Snowiest Places page has been updated for week 9.
Thanks for following the U.P. Michigan Snow Reports - Yooper Steve.

Today we saw more light and fluffy snowfall, nice stellar dendrite snowflakes today and the last three days. We haven't seen more than 2 or 3 inches across the Upper Peninsula the last few days but look for that to change around mid week into the weekend as we see another cold air blast making its way across the U.P. Wednesday into Thursday. Tonight into Wednesday afternoon we will see winds increase with up to 40mph gusts along the Lake Superior shoreline. I have added another snow station in the Soo which you will see listed as Soo SSMM. The Current Top 10 Snowiest Places page has been updated for week 9.

Today's Notes:
More snow, a tad bit warmer across the Upper Peninsula but not by much. Today there was a little bit of sunshine that made the day a little brighter but clouds soon moved back in. Roadways are a bit slipper in some areas as vehicle traffic keeps melting the new snow on the roads and then it freezes immediately underneath creating slick areas of ice. Roadways are being sanded which has helped a bit, but until we start getting back into the low 20s the salt won't work to melt the snow and ice that is on the roads. There won't be much snow this weekend just some light flurries possible. Looking into Monday afternoon we should see winds pick up and then Tuesday we should look for snow to return along with the high winds sweeping across Lake Superior with some more lake effect snow.

Just a little bit of snow across most of the Upper Peninsula, however in the Munising area there was a nice blast of snow dropping 5-8 inches. Ice coverage on Lake Superior gained a few more percentage points. We should stay cold for the most part but with a slight warmup from the last couple weeks temps.

Today's Notes:
Today we had Steuben and Soo SSMM join the 100 Inch Snowfall Club. Snowfall overall was light across most of the Upper Peninsula mostly the northern half saw snow. Snow has been very fine crystals with the very cold temperatures as there isn't much moisture in the air. I added the station Munising 11S to the snow totals page now, it is a station that is 11 miles south of Munising right around the Sixteen mile lake area. In the near future I will be adding more stations. Ice coverage on the Great Lakes has now increased to almost 25% coverage, and Lake Superior is now at 12.83%, look for ice coverage to increase steadily into the coldest part of the year. Will we see 90%-100% ice coverage on Lake Superior this year? I think for that to happen we can't have any warmups and there have to be very few days with high winds. This time in 2013/14 when ice coverage hit 95% there was around 25% ice coverage on Lake Superior, so we are a bit behind.

Today's Notes:
More of those W/NW winds the brought a little more lake effect snowfall to the Upper Peninsula, higher amounts north of Houghton and east of Munising. Elsewhere there was a few traces of snow up to an inch. Expect a little more snowfall tonight into the morning hours, but as we get to towards the weekend it doesn't appear we will see anything but a few occassional snow flurries, a break from shoveling that's how I am looking at it. Snow is starting to add up but we are seeing about normal snow totals for this time of the year and below average temperatures. Since December 1st at the Calumet (Tamarack loc) there have been only 6 days in which not even a trace of snowfall was recorded, so that is 48 of 54 days with snow, with the last 29 days seeing recorded snowfall. During the month of January so far the Calumet (Tamarack loc) is averaging 2.92"/day and Keweenaw county is averaging 3.05"/day, and the 7th snowiest place in the UP (Grand Marais) is averaging 2.24"/day.
I didn't get to do a LIVE Top 10 video tonight at 5pm due to an issue I had to fix with one of my vehicles, but you can view the Current Top 10 Snowiest Places page which I have updated tonight.

Today we saw one more station join the 100 Inch Snowfall Club,Michigan Tech xc trails. This year we have 15 as of today in the 100 Inch Club. Last year today we only had three (3) stations in the 100 Inch Snowfall Club 2020/21. We now have two (2) stations currently at 150+ inches, Keweenaw county and Calumet (Tamarack loc).
With the winds yesterday we lost a little bit of that ice coverage but it won't take long to get it back as we are approaching our coldest part of the season in another few weeks.

Today we saw Greenland join the 100 Inch Snowfall Club. This year we have 14 as of today in the 100 Inch Club. Last year today we had our first two stations join the 100 Inch Club, they were Painesdale and Calumet (Tamarack loc). We have one station currently at 150 inches with a couple more stations really close to 150 inches and a few that are close to reaching that 100 inch mark.
Ice on Lake Superior and the Great Lakes is really growing pretty fast with these cold temperatures and we aren't even into the coldest part of the year yet. You can always view the ice coverage percentage just above the snow totals on each days snow totals.

Today's Notes:
Keweenaw County is the first snowfall location to hit 150 inches for the season, 40 inches away from the 200 Inch Club, and halfway to the 300 Inch Club. Just a dusting of snow across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We saw Dollar Bay join the 100 Inch Snowfall Club. This year we have 13 as of today in the 100 Inch Club, last year at this time we had no stations in the 100 Inch Club. Tonight into tomorrow morning we should start seeing some flurries and tomorrow afternoon we should a few inches of accumulation. Ice on Lake Superior is growing pretty nice the last week with the cold temperatures and they look to continue for awhile. Snowfall totals are a bit ahead of last year but still have a way to go before we hit that 300 inch mark that everyone always talks about. The 200 Inch Club should see a handful of locations this season, but we are still a ways off.

We saw Ironwood 2 and Three Lakes (Ruth Lake) join the 100 Inch Snowfall Club. Beginning of the lake effect storm that hit the Upper Peninsula. Storm wasn't to bad, scale of 1-10 more like a 2 for storms that us Yooper have been through. We are now starting to have the snow add up a bit and you can start seeing those snowbanks getting a bit bigger the last couple weeks. Overall the snowfall locations across the Upper Peninsula are up 30-60 inches from last year at this time, pretty confident we will have a handful of locations hit at least 210-240 inches, and possibly more if we have some decent snowfalls in March and April unlike last year.

Today's Notes:
Today Paradise joined the 100 Inch Snowfall Club. Some light lake effect snow made its way into the UP yesterday night then we saw a warmup in the late evening hours before midnight where we saw some drizzle after temps got to 32 degree. In the early morning hours temps started dropping and the lake effect snow returned, winds picked up with recorded gusts of 45-55mph, snow was moderate through the early morning hours. When people went to their vehicle to head to work in the morning they had to scrape a thin layer of frozen drizzle off their windhshields. Winds continued today and lake effect snowbands continued to impact the N/NW snowbelts all day today, so we should have some decent snowfall amounts tomorrow but probably won't be as much as this mornings measurements. Tonight and tomorrow the temps will be in the low single digits with some negative wind chills, another cold few days with little snow until Saturday and Sunday.

A little bit of snow before we started getting the snowstorm, well not sure how much of a snowstorm it really is but snow was really coming down late afternoon after this mornings snow measurements. We should see snow Wed and Thursday with a possibly snow flurry on Friday, then back to snow through the weekend.

A little bit of snow, not a lot but we have had pretty consistent snowfall since the middle of December. Most people can see we have more snow at this time than last year. Ice coverage on Lake Superior is a little more than this time last year as a result of the colder end of December and the first half of January and it doesn't appear we will see a January thaw like we almost always do. Look for some decent snowfall tomorrow afternoon into Wednesday afternoon, shouldn't add up to a lot but a bit more than we have seen this last week.

Today's Notes: Hope everyone is staying warm, the last 3 days have been pretty chilly for this time of the year, these are the temps we usually start seeing towards the end of January through first week of end of February. We didn't see a lot of snow in most places in the Upper Peninsula but the Soo area did see 8-12 inches the last couple days. We should still see some lake effect snow flurries tonight into Tuesday morning, then things should slow down a little bit Tuesday into Wednesday, with just a few flurries and light accumulations. Temperatures should get a little warmer starting Tuesday night and stay that way into the weekend. We should see temperatures stay in the single digits with wind chills in the negative digits through Monday.
Within the next day to 3 days we should see a few more stations across the U.P. join the 100 Inch Club. You can view the current 100 Inch Snowfall Club all through the winter.

Today's Notes:
Just a trace of snow up to 4 inches of snow across the Upper Peninsula for measurements today. Yesterday we had clear mostly skies and sunshine but it was still pretty chilling with single digits and a light wind, some of the coldest temps of the season so far. Today was slightly warmer and a few more clouds.

Today's Notes:
More snow, more snow, some of you might be sick of it already, well get used to it because we are in for more this weekend and into next week and we are just into the first week of one of the snowiest months of winter. We saw a little snowfall in most locations across the Upper Peninsula yesterday with the higher amounts coming out of the far western UP and central UP. This winter is shaping up to be a typical UP winter, but there are another 5 months to go before we usually are home free without seeing any snow flurries until October 2022. Last year was certainly nice with the early spring, but we usually are so fortunate to see that especially in our snowiest areas in the Upper Peninsula.
Today we had another station join the 100 Inch Club and that station is Houghton county (Superior loc) with 100.2 inches of snow. The other two stations that have already hit 100+ inches are Herman, Painesdale, Calumet (Tamarack loc) and Keweenaw county. Right behind are a handful of other stations which should happen in the next day to week. You can view the current 100 Inch Snowfall Club all through the winter.

Today's Notes:
NOTE: I only list actual daily weather/snow observer snow stations on this website, that would be from WBAN, COOP, or CoCoRaHs weather observers. There many have been some locations that were higher or lower than locations near the listed locations on this page. We do need more weather observers both summer and winter time, the more data we have the better we can get the most accurate weather forecasts out there, plus weather is fun and interesting to follow and be a part of. If measuring snow daily in the winter, meausring rain, being a storm spotter interests you and you feel you have dedication to do something like this contact Yooper Steve or the NWS Marquette office and say you're interested in being a weather observer.
Well day two of the snowstorm didn't disappoint in some areas across the UP, some places saw snowfall amounts far excceding what was projected and many times that happens because of our unique topography, water surroundings, and our proximity to Canada. Winter is a whole different ball game for weather predicting in the Upper Peninsula, if you have lived in the UP any number of years you should know this by now. Anyhow there were some decent snowfall amounts around Ishpeming, Harvey, Calumet, Ironwood, and south of Big Bay, anywhere else saw so so snow amounts. We were dominated by a N/NE wind in the Marquette area which really produced the heavy snow bands for hours on end, they lasted a bit longer than was projected bringing some higher snowfall amounts for the day. The Ironwood area and Calumet usually always see snow from North winds and both N/NW winds which is why they both had some higher numbers for snowfall on both days, the tip of the Keweenaw up near Delaware also saw some decent snowfall on day two of the storm as the lake effect moved in.
Today we had another station join the 100 Inch Club and that station is Herman with 112.2 inches of snow. The other two stations that have already hit 100+ inches are Painesdale, Calumet (Tamarack loc) and Keweenaw county. Right behind are a handful of other stations which should happen in the next day to week. You can view the current 100 Inch Snowfall Club all through the winter. Once a station hits 200 inches I will add it to the 200 Inch Club, and then the 300 Inch Club should we have a station or stations that reach that poin this year.
This year most snow stations are ahead of last year at this time, last year was a pretty low snowfall season, one of the lowest you'll see ever living in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Pretty confident that we will see most stations 20-50 inches higher than last year and we could see a handful of stations reaching that 300 Inch Club mark again.

Today's Notes:
Today we had another station join the 100 Inch Club and that station is Painesdale with 102.9 inches of snow. The other two stations that have already hit 100+ inches are Calumet (Tamarack loc) and Keweenaw county. You can view the current 100 Inch Snowfall Club all through the winter. Once a station hits 200 inches I will add it to the 200 Inch Club, and then the 300 Inch Club should we have a station or stations that reach that poin this year. Last night the snow moved in around midnight across the Upper Peninsula along with some winds, overall the snowfall amounts weren't very high but there will be more to add to the snow totals for the 2 day totals for tomorrow. The storm wasn't to bad in the Keweenaw all day, driving around all day I didn't once feel like it was really a snowstorm, just a windy day with a normal day of snowfall. However over in the Central UP from Negaunee, Marquette, Harvey, and north of Trenary there was some strong snow bands that looked as if they were getting hammered, so we will see with the totals tomorrow. We live in a unique area for weather in the Upper Peninsula seeing bother system snowfalls and lake effect snowfalls and we're surrounded by water on the south and north and some hilly terrain.

Besides the Keweenaw from Calumet to Copper Harbor there wasn't much snowfall in the Upper Peninsula to measure today. As a result we now have our first two snow stations to hit 100+ inches, those being Keweenaw county with 106 inches and Tamarack loc with 100 inches, not far behind is Painesdale (less than2 inches). Yesterday if you watched the LIVE Drive video on Facebook you saw how heavy the snowfall was coming down, 6 inches in 3 hours. Well if you are looking for snow this week you are in for a treat, much of the UP should be in for some more snow. The western, Keweenaw, and Central UP will most likely see the highest amounts Tuesday late night into Thursday morning. Then there is more snowfall expected over the weekend, but the biggest amounts should be those 2 days.
I am looking forward to some nice snowstorms in 2022 before spring hits and the grass starts growing again. Thanks for following FunintheUP snow reports!

Today's Notes:
Happy New Year everyone! Are you looking forward to a great 2022? I know I am, every year we should try to improve our lives and those around us. Hopefully you have been enjoying these snowfall reports daily and all the videos that I do, winter is a fun time of the year most days in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Well not a lot of snow to report for today, but we have been seeing it snow almost daily since the 1st of December. We had a slow start to the 2021/22 winter season in October and November, but December was better than last year, almost double snowfall than last year, in which we are about average year after year. December and January are typically our snowiest months of the winter so if we get what we had in December we should be on the way of having a nice handful of snowfall locations that reach 200-250 inches, and with any decent snowfalls in February, March, and April we may see a few join the 300 Inch Club. I am looking forward to some nice snowstorms in 2022 before spring hits and the grass starts growing again. Thanks for following FunintheUP snow reports!
