Today's Notes:
A trace of snow up to just shy of 2 inches at a few places. There doesn't appear to be any big snowfalls coming the next few days in the forecast and with days getting longer and soon warmer chances of snow go down every day. However we can get some good snowstorms in March and usually get a few inches in April as well, and maybe a few flurries in May, but by May most of the snow is off the lawns and roads, with a few patches of snowin the woods.
Be sure to check out the 9 new snow stations added to the list of snow stations, now totalling 72 locations to follow the daily snowfall in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
NOTE: I will be doing regular tweeks to this page over the next week or two. Today's Notes:
Just a light dusting again today for much of the Upper Peninsula. This weekend there may be a few flurries with minor accumulations and winds on Saturday will pick up with gusts into the 30-35mph range with temps getting into the upper 20s and might hit low 30s. Things look to calm down a bit weather wise into next week.
Our next chance of some decent snow is late Monday night into Tuesday afternoon, snow should touch the entire UP with light snow amounts of 2-4 inches, put could change as it gets closer. Lake Superior ice
Keweenaw county and Tamarack location are in the TOP 10 snowiest places in the entire USA, one of these days maybe I will put a graphic together with the snowiest in the USA.
Be sure to check out the 9 new snow stations added to the list of snow stations, now totalling 72 locations to follow the daily snowfall in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
NOTE: I will be doing regular tweeks to this page over the next week or two. Today's Notes:
Just a dusting of snowfall across the Upper Peninsula yesterday. A couple stations have now reached 250+ inches, they are Keweenaw county and Tamarack loc, these two most likely will reach at least 300 inches this season, there is still another good two months we could see some late snowfall, and it's not unusual to see snow all the way up to Mothers Day. Look for just a few possible flurries for the next few days. Our next chance of some decent snow is late Monday night into Tuesday afternoon, snow should touch the entire UP with light snow amounts of 2-4 inches, put could change as it gets closer. Lake Superior ice coverage is up to 53.67% and now is more than last years highest ice coverage of 50.62%, but it probably won't hold at that to long as it looks like Saturday winds will be a bit gusty with up to 35mph gusts.
Keweenaw county and Tamarack location are in the TOP 10 snowiest places in the entire USA, one of these days maybe I will put a graphic together with the snowiest in the USA.

What a sweet couple days of winter weather. Well sweet if you like snow, for those of us who enjoy a shovelful of snow it was two days of 2 snow storms, yes two storms back to back all blended into one. The first day (Mon) we saw strong NE winds hammer areas like the eastern side of the Keweenaw and really hammer areas north of Negaunee and south of Big Bay and the tip of the Keweenaw. The second day we saw continuing NE winds early on during the morning then shifting to a prevailing N wind which continued to drop a few yooper scoops full of lake effect across a broader range of Western UP, Northern, and Central UP. The southern and the eastern UP saw very little snow for the two days of snowstorms.
Be sure to check out the 9 new snow stations added to the list of snow stations, now totalling 72 locations to follow the daily snowfall in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Today's Notes:
Today we had 4 snow stations join the 100 Inch Snowfall Club, Ontonagon, Three Lakes (Beaufort Lk.), White City, and Clarksburg.
Well a nice snowstorm started entering the UP last night and continues tonight into Wednesday morning. Snow totals added up into the double digits in some locations in the Keweenaw and north of Ishpeming and Negaunee with that North East wind. In the Eastern and Southern UP snow totals were minimal yesterday. The winds started shifting to north later afternoon which started the lake effect machine in the North snowbelts, so there should be some nice numbers in places like the Keweenaw and western UP tomorrow. After Wednesday the remainder of the week looks to be mostly clear of snowfall but temps will remain cold.
Be sure to check out the 9 new snow stations added to the list of snow stations, now totalling 72 locations to follow the daily snowfall in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Today's Notes:
Not much snow to report but a couple snow systems are on the way, one which we started to see today (Mon), winds moving in the NE direction impacting the eastern areas a bit more with lake effect while further inland we are seeing that system moisture with small snow crystals. Tonight into tomorrow it should be much of the same then winds start changing directions late Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday when the N/NW snowbelts should add more snow to the storm totals. After Wednesday the remainder of the week looks to be clear of snowfall but temps will remain cold.

A little bit of sunshine came out and just a few flurries to report today, most of the snow was in the central and eastern UP. Looking forward this week may be our biggest snowstorm of this season approaching. We should see some system snow and also lake effect snow. Heaviest snow and winds should be Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday morning.

Today's Notes:
Just a little snowstorm, nothing to crazy yesterday, but the winds were pretty high with gusts up to 46mph. We had a couple stations join the 200 Inch Snowfall Club. We now have 4 stations with 200+ inches for the season, last year we only had 2 stations hit the 200 inch mark, and we should have a few more reach 200 inches very soon. Ice on Lake Superior is about 15% lower than last year at this time, and last year 50% ice coverage was the highest of the season. We are now in the coldest part of the year but I don't see the ice coverage getting much more than 50% again this year. This time in 2015 we had 93.71% ice and in 2014 we had 90.86% ice coverage on Lake Superior, in 2014 we saw ice on Lake Superior near Munising and in Keweenaw Bay into the 3rd week of June.

Some light snow today. Lake effect snow moved in today across the Upper Peninsula mid to late afternoon and quickly added up to a few inches by early afternoon. Winds also picked up and made driving a bit difficult at times. Tomorrow we should have some nice snowfall amounts to report across the western and eastern UP. Ice on Lake Superior has been hovering around 35-41% the last week, it should be more than last year, in which tomorrow last year it reached 50.62% the highest of the season.

Just another dusting of snow with the most snow coming out of the area just north of Seney. We wont see much snow in the Western UP but across the east near Munising and further east should see 2-4 inches tonight into Friday afternoon. Just a dusting of snow across most of the UP yesteday. Temps this week are going to be up and down, cold to colder to cold, colder. Wednesday should be our warmest day this week and we may see low to mid 20s for most of the afternoon. Next chance of some nice lake effect snowfall is Friday into Saturday. A low pressure system is moving in and the temperatures early Friday go from negative single digits into the mid double digits, and perhaps even touch the low 20s during which time we may start seeing some of that moderate lake effect snow.

Today's Notes:
We have had some nice snow again this week, with much of it being these last 3 days with 10-20 inches in the N/NW snow belts. The snowfall amounts I didn't think were that great for what the predictions were but it was certainly the high winds that made things difficult the last few days. Today when out measuring my six snow stations you could see lots of big drifts as a result. Downtown Houghton was the latest snow station to join the 100 Inch Snowfall Club. We had our first two stations hit 200 inches of snow and are the first two stations to join the 200 Inch Snowfall Club. Soon within the next couple weeks we should see another 3 or 4 stations reach the 200 inch mark but not sure if there will be much more than 5 or 6 stations to reach that 200 inch mark this year, but anything can happen as we will still usually get some decent snowfalls during March and April, with a few flurries sometimes up to the middle of May. Be sure to check out the 9 new snow stations added to the list of snow stations, now totalling 72 locations to follow the daily snowfall in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Today's Notes:
Just some light snow, not as fluffy and light as the last few days, mostly just a dusting overnight. Look forward to another blast of lake effect snow Thursday night into Friday afternoon. It looks to be some of that N/NW lake enhanced snow but it shouldn't add up to much more than 4-6 inches, but with lake effect snow it came add up quickly if the conditions are right and we still have lots of ice-free water on Lake Superior. Be sure to check out the 9 new snow stations added to the list of snow stations, now totalling 72 locations to follow the daily snowfall in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Today's Notes:
Snow is slowly adding up especially in the Copper Country, Keweenaw, and east of Munising. We have 24 snow stations with at least 100 inches so far this year and at this time last year we had around 10. Soon we wil see our first snow station hit 200 inches and not far behind have our second, this may happen in the next few days as it looks to be a fairly snowy week and weekend.

Today's Notes:
Today we had 3 more snow stations join the 100 Inch Snowfall Club. The stations that joined today are Houghton County airport, Watton, and Carlshend. This time last year we had only 10 stations with at least 100 inches and this year we have 24 with at least 100 inches. Soon we will have our first station hit 200 inches and join the 200 Inch Club which last year we only had two stations hit 200 inches.
Lake effect snow dropped down with 3-10 inches across the Upper Peninsula yesterday and early this morning. This was the lightest and fluffiest lake effect I have seen for some time, actually the last few days have been really light snow with awesome looking stellar dendrites and fernlike dendrites. Lots of moisture still being pulled up off Lake Superior right now with these cold arctic winds even with about 35% of Lke Superior being covered in ice, but there is a ton of open water right where it's needed to be open for that lake effect machine to keep dropping those big fluffy flakes. Today at my 6 snowfall stations I can really see the snow adding up, especially these last few days with another 10-16 inches in the Copper Country and Keweenaw.

Today's Notes:
We saw some light fluffy snow quickly add up to a few inches with up to 8 inches in places in the Eastern UP. Ironwood joined the 100 Inch Snowfall Club today. We are very close to seeing a couple stations joining the 200 Inch Club. Keweenaw county seasonal snowfall as of today is equal to the final season snowfall last year and many other stations are a good 20-60 inches ahead of last year at this time.

Today's Notes:
Just some light small crystal snow overnight with continuing snow flurries this afternoon. We had some nice cold nights in the negative digits down to -20s in some areas near Amasa, Covington, and Three Lakes. We are now starting to get near the coldest part of the year and the days are also getting longer. Last year today we had a nice snowstorm that dumped upwards of 12-18 inches in the Keweenaw, around 10-12 inches in the Ironwood and Bergland areas, and around 10 inches in the Ish/Neg/Mqt areas, and across the eastern UP 5-10 inches. Across the N/NW snowbelts snowfall has been about average and many stations are around 20-40 inches ahead of last year at this time, but compared to the previous season (2019/20) they are behind 20-40 inches. We still have plenty of time to add another 50-100 inches of snow, especially across the snowbelts, it isn't unusual to see our last snow flurries around Mothers Day. As much as I like snow and winter I do like an early spring, last year was really nice to be able to get into the woods and backroads earlier than we usually can here in the Upper Peninsula. Lake Superior ice coverage is getting up there now, we are sitting at 36.64% tonight, when we start getting to that 50% mark we can start seeing the lake effect snow machine start to slow down a little bit, I am sure we will see 50% in the next week if we don't see the high winds, ice is still thin though so it wouldn't take much to break it up.
