Welcome to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan snowfall totals. This page is soley for November 2019 snowfall across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. If you wish to view other months just find the month you want to view below. We saw above average snowfall across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan at most snowfall locations.
--Thank you so much for following the snowfall reports for the last 8 years and your support for over the years, look forward to many more.
---Yooper Steve.
Today's Notes: Another strong snow system made its way into the Midwest again bringing more heavy snowfall across the Upper Peninsula. Largest snowfall totals at snow observer stations came out of Ironwood. Other areas east, NE, and SE of Ironwood also had a decent amount of snowfall. The larger amounts were in the Ishpeming area, southern Baraga county, southern Houghton county, northern Iron county, central Ontonagon county, and Gogebic county. Outlying areas from the system still got a little snowfall but it did drop off quite a bit off the circulation of the storm. Areas in the eastern UP saw around 3-5 inches, the Copper Country around 3-5 inches, and areas from Escanaba to Manistique 4-6 inches. Ironwood Mountain to Escanaba to Manistique is really the bananda belt as there is no snowfall observation station that has recorded more than 20 inches yet this season.
Today is the opening day of the snowmobile trails. Most of the trail clubs in the UP have been taking care of downed trees, beaver dams, wet spots, and other hazards along the trails. Although the trails are open and there is a decent amount of snowfall, use caution on all trails, and be respectful of the work that is being done daily to try and get the trails in excellent condition for riding. Things will be rough for the next week or two until we get some really cold weather to help freeze those wet spots.
Thanks for following the snowfall reports and FunintheUP, and have a great day! ---Yooper Steve

Today's Notes: Not much snowfall today, another pretty easy going day to catch up on that snowfall shoveling you didn't get to the last couple days, just in time before we get the next snow system coming later tonight and Sunday. You can keep track up updates on the weather on the NWS Marquette website. The last snowstorm along with the coming snowstorm will really shake up this weeks Top 10 Snowiest locations. There are still people without power across the Upper Peninsula and it might be bad news for those people and others with this new storm coming. If you haven't already gotten extra water, batteries, candles, blankets, and other emergency gear ready then hurry up and get it, always be ready for an emergency don't rely on someone else taking care of you because it might not happen.

Today's Notes: Yesterday, Thanksgiving was a great day after quite the snowstorm for much of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Midwest. Many were still digging out through the evening hours after dinner from the storm. There were 10s of thousands without power, even some still don't have power. Not having power in the Upper Peninsula in the winter, one can get really cold fast. It is imporant to have a generator and know how you are going to do the basics when you don't have power. After two days of blistering weather Thanksgiving was calm and less than an inch of snowfall at any locations in the U.P. yesterday. This weekend there looks to be another storm system moving in. It does look like we will be seeing some snowfall, but it will probably impact more of the western UP than elsewhere. You can keep track up updates on the NWS Marquette website.

Today's Notes: Yesterday a snow storm came across the Midwest and brought some bad conditions for driving on one of the most traveled days of the year, welcome to Thanksgiving 2019. Today's snowfall numbers along with the snow yesterday brought us some decent snow storm totals across the UP from Ironwood, to the Copper Country, down to Watersmeet, and over to Ishpeming. There was only 1 snow station that recorded over 20 inches of snowfall for the storm and that is Painesdale. Could there have been locations with more than 20 inches that fell, sure, but there aren't any regular daily snowfall observers in those areas. FunintheUP doesn't use any snowfall measurements from any locations that aren't officially measuring snowfall on a daily basis. Two day snow totals are indicated below. With this snow storm there were a few stations that got a little closer to Grand Marais (Green loc.) season total, but they are still leading with 67 inches for the season, there's a handful of locations that may pass it soon. I hope everyone is having a wonderful Thanksgiving Day, stay warm and don't get to full, save room for dessert, dontcha know eh!
I am thankful for each of you that follow FunintheUP, it is great to see so many returning to view vidoes and thanks for sharing FunintheUP content on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is CHOW TIME, Turkey hear I come!

Today's Notes: Well the winds came, and the snow fell, the Eastern UP had their first snowstorm already and today the Western UP had its first snowstorm of the season, it sure hasn't disappointed those who love snow storms. Snow started falling around 10pm last night and into the early hours it was a wet snowfall. Later on as the day progressed the snowfall became drier and lighter as the temperatures dropped into the mid 20s. Traveling around this morning you could feel the difference in wind gusts from Houghton area to the Calumet area, especially as you started climbing the Quincy Hill. The road crews across the Upper Peninsula have sure had their hands full today, especially with the winds and constant snowfall as drifting increased through the afternoon. The highways were overall easily traveled if driving for conditions, there was lots of blowing snow which temporarily made things a bit tougher. Of course there were your tailgaters and speed demons as always, but most people were driving for conditions today. It was tough trying to keep the windows clear of snow, ice, and clear from fogging up. If things continue as they have been throughout the afternoon with blowing and drifting it will be an interesting Black Friday for shoppers, myself I won't be hitting the stores. Thanks for tuning into the LIVE Snowfall Report today, sure was windy today. There are plenty of lcoations now in the Upper Peninsula with 40+ inches so far this season, and it isn't even December yet. Be sure to check out the FunintheUP BLOG, I will be trying to post regularly on the BLOG with things that are happening and adventures across the Upper Peninsula. Thanks for following the snowfall reports and FunintheUP, Yooper Steve

Today's Notes: A little bit of snowfall across the western Upper Peninsula and Copper Country, with a few flakes in the central UP. The real story is the storm system coming in later tonight and early morning tomorrow. Most of you know much of the Upper Peninsula will probably see anywhere from 6 inches of snow to upwards of 16+ inches. Areas in the Peshekee Grade and high areas of the Huron Mountains may see 18+ inches of snow upwards of 24 inches. THe snowfall will be heavy wet snowfall and will cause difficulties driving. Conditions will be extreme most likely with blizzard conditions possible across the tip of the Keweenaw with winds potentially reaching 50mph gusts. Other areas of the Upper Peninsula along the Lake Superior shoreline may see 30mph winds with 40mph gusts. Areas along Lake Michigan may not see much snowfall and may see rain or even a wet mix of precipitation. Be sure to watch our FunintheUP Facebook page for a LIVE Video report on snowfall.

Today's Notes: Today nothing to report from yesterday, a quiet day in the Upper Peninsula. It was a pleasant day for the hunters with mild temperatures and little wind. There was still some beautiful scenic views out there with the snow lingering on tree branches and on evergreens in some of the higher elevations in Houghton and Keweenaw counties. Monday morning and into early Tuesday afternoon there could be some mixed preciptation along with some light snowfall across the Upper Peninsula but not a lot to worry about until late Tuesday night and all day Wednesday into Thursday early morning. So it really looks to get back into winter this coming week early Wednesday morning. This Colorado Low system is still a bit unpredictable but it appears it is going to be affecting much of the Midwest with heavy wet snowfall. If the ridge of the system lifts northward it will decrease the snowfall amounts most likely with an increased chance of rainfall in some areas. It is looking that it won't lift to much which should still bring some decent snowfall totals from Ironwood up into the Copper Country and northern Marquette county. Other places might get snowfall later on after some mixed preciptation or rainfall. The areas closer to Lake Michigan won't see much snowfall either way it appears as of right now. Either way it will definately make travel a bit more difficult starting late Tuesday night through early Thursday morning. Thanksgiving day I am sure there will be many bonding opportunities with family clearing snow out of the driveways, there will probably also be some interesting travel stories told at the supper table on Thanksgiving. Time period right now appears to be from 9pm Tuesday night to Thursday midnight.
The Western UP and Copper Country is still behind last years snowfall amounts but areas to the eastern UP remain above last years snowfall numbers for this point last year. Grand Marais is still holding onto the snowiest location in the UP as of today. As we get into Decemeber the Western UP and Northern UP areas will start seeing those NW winds that are good for dropping lake effect snowfall like crazy. Overall for the month of November we are above average snowfall in most locations while areas near Ishpeming and Marquette are running slightly behind their normals.
Today's Notes: Hardly anything for snowfall for today's measurements. Things will hold pretty mild for the next few days through Monday. There could be some light snowfall Mondy into Tuesday over the Keweenaw with a light West to Northwest flow of Lake Effect snow as the next trough moves through. Then the next system of precipitation seems to moving in across the Upper Peninsula starting on Tuesday and through Wednesday. The impact of the system seems to be shrinking and a guess as to what track and timing of the system. It seems more of the lower peninsula will see more of this system than the Upper Peninsula. Will be updating you with new information the next couple days with what to expect for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Today's Notes: There was a small storm system that made its way into the western UP and northern UP late morning yesterday that quickly brought some heavy wet snowfall early on. Later during the afternoon and into the evening the temps dropped and snowfall was considerably more dry. The roads across the Copper Country were a real mess with all the water content in the snow, it certainly made for some slippery roads as well. Areas around Marquette got around 0.5 inches to 2 inches of snow. This system also brought 0.5 inches of snow to 2 inches of snowfall to the eastern UP later on during the late afternoon but quickly dissappated. Today's Notes: Still warmer today before we get the minor lake effect snow system that is supposed to hit and bring snowfall to the western and northern Upper Peninsula. On the ground snowfall amounts have dropped 2-5 inches since earlier in the week and some locations no longer have any snow on the ground as of today. It shouldn't last to long though, as with more darkness and cooler days ahead more snowfall will be on its way as we get ready for the month of December usually the snowiest month of winter here in the Upper Peninsula.

Today's Notes: Virtually no snowfall to report, a few locations with a trace of snow. Things look to start changing back to that winter feeling. There will be a couple systems with moisture moving across from the western US to the Plains and into our area starting Thursday. The Colorado Low will mostly affect the western UP and portions of the central UP with snowfall. Snowfall amounts could be 2-5 inches of snowfall especially in the higher elevations from Mass City to the Keweenaw and possibly around Ishpeming and Neguanee. On the backside of the system will mostly be rain and possibly a little freezing rain and winter mix.
In the next day or two I will be updating the snowfall page, so the next time you visit it may have a totally different look and feel. I think it will be a little cleaner to view on mobile devices which about 80% of our users use to view FunintheUP.com content. It will look good on both mobile and desktop computers.

Today's Notes: There wasn't much snowfall yesterday, a very mild day overall across the UP. A little drizzle and a few light flakes here and there in places like Calumet, Herman, Watton, Clarksburg, Ishpeming, and Negaunee. Look for temperatures to stay about normal for November through today and Wednesday. Overall compared to last year at this time areas of the Western, Northern, and Central Upper Peninsula are behind last years snowfall totals. Areas like Newberry, Grand Marais to the south, and Paradise are ahead of last years snowfall totals. Just goes to show you you never know what Novemeber will bring you. The NW snowbelts will still get their snow as usual so if you are worried you shouldn't be winter has really yet to fully arrive. As we continue to see less daylight we will continue to see temperatures slowly drop. Temps will drop back down into the 20s it appears on Thursday and into the weekend. The new weather models are showing that the trough that will be moving through Wednesday into Thursday still may bring snow showers but it is weakening now so we shouldn't see that heavier lake effect and only see some minor accumulations on Thursday. A Colorado Low is building in the west but we should see the warmer side of this system which will decrease the chances we see any significant snowfall out of this system. There will most likely be precipitation across the UP but it looks like it might be more rain and drizzle than snowfall. Through the weekend things may remain dry, we shall see as the systems make their way eastward towards the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Today's Notes: Tune in LIVE at 5pm for the Weekly TOP 10 Snowiest Places in the UP.
A few locations with some light snowfall early on in the morning yesterday before noon and also early morning this morning. Temperatures through the day yesterday brought some light drizzle through areas of the Upper Peninsula along with some fog. Many of the more traveled roadways are now for the most part bare roads which just a couple days before were pretty slick. Today expect light drizzle even mixed precipitation for lower elevations, some of the higher elevations might get a few flurries, but nothing that will stick around too long. Tonight across the western and central UP expect a weaking trough to move in from the WNW bringing some light snow, mixed precipitation, and possibly freezing rain. The eastern UP could see some light precipitation of mixed or freezing drizzle. Looking into Wednesday and Thursday according the the current models there is a slight chance of heavy snowfall especially Thursday as temperatures remain cool enough to support snowfall. Possibly bringing 6+ inches of snowfall to the western and central Upper Peninsula. On the backside of this front in the NW snowbelts there could be some lake effect snowfall not far off which could bring persistent lake effect snowfall into the weekend.

Today's Notes: Just a little snowfall across the Copper Country early this am just before snowfall measurements. It was a heavy wet snowfall which made the roads slippery very quickly. Later on through the day the warmer temperatures came around and there was drizzle and made for some wet snowcover, great snowman building weather. There won't be to much snowy weather for the next few days it looks like, there could be some flakes and minor accumulations in the higher elevations with any cool air moving through. It looks like Thursday into Friday could be our next significant snow system moving in, things could be snow storm level. Temperatures should start dropping into the low to mid 20s by early morning Wednesday and remain there through the weekend.

Today's Notes: Not much snowfall today, a few traces of snowfall in the Copper Country and around Ishpeming area. A little more than a trace feel south of Harvey area. Overall a pretty nice day temps stayed in the 20s for most of the day. Last night the temps did drop down into the single digits. On the Portage Canal there is now ice forming, with a little wind it will break up, but it goes to show you how cold it has been to have ice this time on year on the canal. Many small lakes around the UP already have ice some a few inches thick already.

Today's Notes: The first day in the Copper Country with no recorded snowfall for the day. It has snowed every day for the last 2 weeks. Grand Marais area to the south also had no snowfall with 12 of the last 14 days having had recorded snowfall. Things look to be light on snowfall the next few days into next week. It isn't until around Wednesday that things look to pick up again. It is nice to have a little bit of a break especially so early in the snowfall season. The eastern side of the UP is ahead of last year snowfall at this time by around 15-20 inches. The Copper Country is running about 10-15 inches behind last year at this time. The NWS Marquette office only has 9 inches of snowfall so far this season and last year at this time they had recorded 20.2 inches already. In all actuality most locations in the UP are running ahead of normal snowfall averages. It will be interesting to see how many snow stations reach 200 inches this year and also hit 300 inches.
When driving on the roads remember to use caution as they are still very slippery. Slow down, slow down, slow down, and be sure to clean off your windows so you can see out of your car, I assure you it doesn't take that long to do and you will be a lot safer driving when you can see what is ahead or on the side of you. It doesn't matter if you have AWD or 4WD and have the best snow tires on, the slushy, wet, and ice can spin you out easily. Be safe out there.

Today's Notes: Not much snowfall anywhere in the Upper Peninsula except the a few parts of the Eastern UP. There was a snow system that came off Lake Michigan and dropped some snow around Newberry, Paradise, and the Soo. Elsewhere in the UP there was little to no accumulation.

Today's Notes: Light snow across most of the Upper Peninsula today with areas near Munising to Newberry getting the most snowfall. Still not much snowfall to talk about from Watersmeet all the way across the lower half of the Upper Peninsula all the way over to St. Ignace. Cross Country ski trails are open in the Munising area now so go enjoy some skiing. It is getting closer to Dec 1st the opening of snowmobiling season and a couple day is opening of rifle deer season, where you most men and a few women disappear to hunting camps deep in the UP. There is some significant snowfall that is impacting the eastern UP Schoolcraft county and Luce county so expect some decent snowfall numbers from that area tomorrow. There looks to be a little bit of a warmup after a few days of single digits and teens.

Today's Notes: Things are a big snow filled these days in the Upper Peninsula. There has been recorded snowfall in the Copper Country every day in November so far and extending back into October it has snowed 14 of 15 days. Across the Eastern UP at the Grand Marais snow station it has snowed 10 of 11 days so far in November and has snowed 12 of the last 15 days. Besides snowfall we are now seeing the temperatures drop in the Upper Peninsula, especially for the middle of November. At this rate those mid January to mid February temperatures won't seem so bad after we get used to these single digits we saw early this morning. Another set of snowbands made their way across the Upper Peninsula. The highest snowfall amounts coming out of the Ironwood area and Munising area today. There are numbers in the 15-20 inches across areas along M94 Forest Lake and down towards Steuben. Others areas near Munising and Grand Marais snowfall is from 6-12 inches being reported. Light snowfall should keep falling through the next
couple days. There is a possibility of the eastern end of Schoolcraft county seeing a bit of snowfall and almost entire Luce county may see a snow system moving up from Lake Michigan on Wednesday, this could bring a few inches to more than a foot of snow. We will most likely see a few snow showers during the week and temperatures look to get into the low 30s by the weekend which will be back closer to normal for this time of the season.
When driving on the roads remember to use caution as they are still very slippery. Slow down, slow down, slow down, and be sure to clean off your windows so you can see out of your car, I assure you it doesn't take that long to do and you will be a lot safer driving when you can see what is ahead or on the side of you. Today's Notes: This day last year was our first big snow storm of the year which dropped 10-20 inches across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This years first snow storm was a few days ago. Today was another day of snowfall. So far across the Copper Country there has been recorded snowfall for 10 straight days and it looks to continue. Also across areas south of Grand Marais it has snowed 8 out of the last 10 days, and that area has received the most snowfall so far in the Upper Peninsula. Overall most of the Upper Peninsula has now seen at least a trace of snow, the least snowiest areas of the Upper Peninsula right now are east of I75, Escanaba and to the south, and from Gladstone all the way to St. Ignace. It is safe to say that areas near Munising to Grand Marais inland, the Copper Country and Keweenaw, and areas north of Ishpeming will not see grass until spring. Long term forecast however looks to warm up slightly starting Sunday next week into Weds with upper 30s. There might be a bit of Lake Effect snow to move in across the UP through the NW snowbelts, the NWS is calling for increased snow across areas south of Munising and Grand Marias to the south. Areas of the Copper Country and Keweenaw could see some Lake Effect as well. Snow systems change quickly especially this time of the year. Everyone should now be in winter mode having seen snowfall the last 10 days. Remember tomorrow Monday Nov 11th is Facebook LIVE at 5PM TOP 10 Snowiest Locations in the UP. Be sure to tune in each Monday at 5pm for LIVE at 5.

Starting Nov 11th, LIVE at 5PM TOP 10 Snowiest Places in the U.P. through the end of the winter.

Today's Notes: Just a light snowfall across most of the Upper Peninsula today. Areas along Lake Michigan from Escanaba to St. Ignace remain mostly free of snow on the ground, the further north you go you see more snow. The far eastern side of the UP, east of I75 has seen only a few flakes of snow in the air this season, DeTour just recorded it's first trace of snowafall for this season. We have more snow coming this week starting Sunday night into Monday. Temps on Sunday should be fairly mild compared to what is coming on Monday and Tuesday. The air will feel like January weather. Also add in the big snowfall numbers that are possible on Monday and Tuesday and it will surely start looking like January. Stay tuned for updated info on the weather and if you are traveling head the warnings below.

Today's Notes: It has snowed every day so far in November across much of the Copper Country and central UP. Yesterday we saw snowbands that impacted Downtown Marquette to Munising and down to Trenary. The Lake Effect snow system dropped 5-18 inches of snowfall during the day yesterday. It was the first snow storm to reach the Upper Peninsula. Snow totals have been about equal across most areas of the UP as they were at this time last year. Last year we had a big storm on Nov 9th. There will be light snow this week through most of the UP. I know a lot of deer hunters are hoping that it doesn't snow to much more before the start of deer rifle season as it makes it a bit more difficult to get into hunting camps.
When driving on the roads remember to use caution as they are very slippery. Have already seen over a dozen vehicles in the ditch the last couple days from spinning out on the roads, most likely due to driving to fast for conditions. It doesn't matter if you have AWD or 4WD and have the best snow tires on, the slushy, wet, and ice can spin you out easily. Be safe out there.

Today's Notes: There has been 8 straight day of snowfall in the Copper Country. The real news however is the storm impacting the Central UP right now, the first snow storm in the Upper Peninsula this season. About this time last year the Western UP, Keweenaw and Munising areas had a storm that dropped 8-18 inches overnight and that was just the beginning to what would be a above average snowfall for most of the Upper Peninsula. Late last night the snow bands started hitting the Munising area and dropped about 4-8 inches of snowfall by the late morning hours today. The snowfall continued to fall today around Marquette, Harvey, south to about Trenary and over to Munising and Wetmore area. So far today there has been around 8-12 inches that has fallen in those areas and it is still snowing, snowfall should start to dwindle around 6am in the morning. There very well could be some 15-20 inch snowfall numbers coming out of the central Upper Peninsula tomorrow. If you have pics or video footage of the snowfall feel free to send a message on facebook.

Today's Notes: Very light snowfall across some of the Upper Peninsula. The amount of snowfall we are seeing this year is about what we saw last year at this time. Last year November was a pretty snowy month, above average in most areas. Marquette NWS office saw 37 inches, north of Ishpeming saw 43 inches, Newberry saw 43 inches, Soo 29 inches, Painesdale saw 43 inches, Tamarack loc saw 62 inches, Dollar Bay 37 inches, Keweenaw county 45 inches, Herman 50 inches, Ironwood 49 inches, and Berland 49 inches. So you can see that the month of Novemeber last winter was a good start to winter. So far this November is a good start to winter.

Today's Notes: Snowfall was light and steady through yesterday and into the early morning hours today. Things look to remain snowy through the week with high winds for the next couple days. Some snow stations have more snowfall than at this time last year with today's snowfall, others are about equal. It will most likely be another year of heavy snowfall so be prepared for a long winter well into April, if that doesn't happen then I don't think many will mind an early spring for once. Today's Notes: Today we have a few stations with snowfall, nothing to significant overall. The most snowfall was around the Huron Mountains area and to the south to Negaunee and Ishpeming areas. Areas of the Copper Country and Keweenaw saw a few tenths of an inch or a few traces of snow. Out to the western UP near Ironwood there was a little snow with Ironwood as the only station measuring much of anything. Paradise is very close to Herman which now leads the UP with the most snow in the UP, taking an early lead again like last year at this time.
In the U.P. snowbelts things look white now and it should stay that way through the week and possibly for good until the snow starts melting in March or April. If this winter is anything like the last couple winters we will still be seeing white into the middle of May.
Starting Nov 11th, I will start doing the LIVE at 5PM TOP 10 Snowiest Places in the U.P. through the end of the winter.
Light snowfall looks to continue through the week and possibly into the weekend. Tuesday through Thursday look to be fairly windy with gusts into the mid 20s to low 30s. A little snowfall today across much of the central, western, and northern UP. Other areas had a trace or no snowfall. Snow squalls continued throughout the afternoon across the UP which will start off November with a blanket of white gold. I did see a couple snowmobilers out today but they were tooling around near their houses off the trails. Quincy Hill to Calumet along with higher elevations near Painesdale were getting more snow squalls in the early afternoon.
